Precious moments

Your Newborn session will take place within the first two weeks of your baby’s arrival. You will be welcomed into my home from home studio and we will go over all of your requirements.  This will also be done before the session to make you get everything you wanted. The session takes around 2-3 hours and in that time there will be lots of baby cuddles and feeding. It is all baby centred, it is a very relaxed and enjoyable experience. You will be invited back to the studio 10 days later for your ordering session where we can work together to choose the images you would like to keep for you and your baby to treasure forever.

SOMETIMES, the smallest things

take up the MOST room in your heart

What a fantastic experience we had with Carli!  My wife and I sat back, just what we needed after a few nights of minimal sleep, while Carli did all of the work to capture some stunning photographs of our little girl.  She has a natural talent to produce beautiful shots as well as keeping our baby relaxed.  If you are thinking of getting new born pictures with Carli to cherish-then do!

Brendan - St. Albans

Your Newborn session is very special and unique. It is a very calm and relaxing place to be. There is lots of laughing, nurturing and cuddles.

The studio is set up so all you have to do is come along with your beautiful baby. Everything will be provided for you, including stressless chairs for your comfort and a nice hot cup of tea or coffee.

The studio is secluded so if you’re not feeling up to getting dressed on that particular morning, you could turn up in your pyjamas if you want to – you wouldn’t be the first!!

As special and exciting as this time is, as a mum myself, I completely understand your concerns about handing your brand new baby over to someone for a couple of hours whilst they create images for you to treasure forever. That is why it is important to always be in continuous training to ensure you receive the safest practices and best images. Since starting, I have photographed over 500 babies in the 7 years since starting Newborn photography.

Please watch our video for a glimpse into what happens at a newborn session.

There are midwives that come in and check the studio and last year I gained the Newborn safety certification from the Master Photographers Association. Being only the 4th in the country to do so and the very first in Hertfordshire. I am also very proud of having received a Licentiate Qualification which requires a panel of judges to assess the level of work produced and am now a Fully Qualified Master Photographer. I am also a Pro Banpas member which means my work has been assessed for quality, and am one of only a handful of photographers in the UK to have been appointed as an Ambassador for the organisation, which promotes safety and excellence in Newborn Photography.

From all this, you can see that I take your baby’s safety very seriously, with a tonne of experience and the knowledge to know exactly what to do in a variety of situations. This experience will be one where you can sit back and relax knowing your baby is in safe hands. Please see this post about Newborn Safety

Newborns change very fast, and so its best to capture those magical early days as soon as possible. Within the first 2 weeks is best because much after that babies wake more easily, and become less curly.

Its best to book as soon as you can after your 12 week scan. This ensures your slot when baby arrives. If you left it until baby arrives we may not have space to fit you in during busy times. We use your due date to book you in, and schedule your session in when baby arrives, no matter if she is early or late.

Unlike a more traditional studio photo session that might take an hour, we do things very differently. Baby runs the show, and everything is done at her pace. We take time to settle, feed, change, cuddle and soothe. Then when I start the posing its all done slowly and gently and I don’t clock watch, and I won’t rush baby.

Yes, throughout the session I will handle your baby. I’ll settle her, pose her and create the images you hope for. If she needs you then of course I’ll hand her back, but its best we get to know each other for me to achieve the poses I am known for.

Many parents worry ahead of their session that their baby will cry and I won’t be able to get the images they hope for. Rest assured that the session is very calm and relaxed, and that includes the baby. All newborns cry sometimes, and if your baby does we will take our time and make sure he is happy again with feeding or winding, just as you would at home. Babies I am posing sometimes squeak a little when moved while asleep, but you don’t need to worry about him screaming and preventing the session from running smoothly. In nearly 7 years this has only ever happened when the baby was poorly, and we simply rescheduled. If for any reason I feel he is unhappy with what I am doing, I will stop. No image is more important than his comfort.

Yes. I have mums in within days of having had a section, and they are always lovely and comfortable. The studio is cosy and has Stressless chairs with cushions you can use if you wish.

Please get in touch to my availability for your due date.  It is most people to book after their 20-week scan. The session is provisionally booked and a session date booked once your baby has arrived.
